Don't Feel Loved? There's an Ice Cream Flavor for That...

So, instead of digging into your favorite pint, you should take a minute and think about how happy you really are with your life/career/relationship/weight/bank account right now.  This will probably lead to some driving back to the grocery store to pick up more ice cream.

I guess anyone can publish a book about anything.
I discovered the same was true with music CD's when I used to work at Best Buy ::cough David Hassellhoff cough::

The Book Drop is NOT a Trash Bin.

The P.A.T.R.O.N. Award of the week goes to whoever dumped a whole bin of soggy, moldy, smelly "donations" in the bookdrop.

The fact that you actually handled these items when they were placed in your car, driven to the library, and then carried to the bookdrop leaves me to believe that you must be crazy to think that the library could/would find use in these items.

Detective Bookman is on the case and when the DNA lab results return from Tech Services you will be billed for all of the Purell we had to use after throwing your garbage away.

Library Tip of the Day.

I know how patrons love how convenient it may be to be able to call the branch and resolve any issues over the phone. I ask that you please try not to multitask while doing so ie renewing your books while driving--reading off your account number on the library card which is attached to your keys which is in the ignition is not recommended. Or let's say calling about your account while you're using the bathroom.

There are certain audible cues that give away your location. Namely, the echo and the sounds of things hitting water. Also, talking louder or clearing your throat does NOT cover up the noise of a 1.6 gallon Kohler flushing in the background.

"Creative" --- sure, "Great"--- not so sure...

I came across these books when I was checking in returns.  My first thought was all of the sets from the great sitcoms from the 90's when these books were published: Full House, Family Matters, Step by Step, Hanging With Mr. Cooper.

They say that fashion is a perpetual cycle, I'm just wondering if these decor will ever come back in style.  Time to swap out those brushed aluminum appliances and granite counters for some formica.

ILL's are for Serious Reading... WRONG.

Working with my branch's ILL's directly and with my years of checking them in and out, all of the titles have seemed to be for research or for some educational purpose.

This particular patron has proven me wrong.

Apparently, someone requested GhettoHeat's Convict's Candy.  I really have no idea why.  The County pays for ILL's and I'm left wondering why it was spent on this.  Yeah, I know, the library is open information for all but c'mon.  Just watch "The Wire" or something.

My First Library Meme...

I was inspired by KMAZ's comment link to create my first library meme.

It's Not a Competition... But I'd Be Winning.

There's a new battle in my library and it isn't for funding.
It's for all out breakroom door supremacy and the ish just got real.
My coworkers posted what they thought were "funny" and "cute" pictures they've come across --- pretty weaksauce if you ask me. I took it up several notches with my picture on the right. It makes you laugh, cry, and angry all at the same time!
My coworker said that, "It's on," and that she's going to post a better picture --- psshhhh, I think not. Mine contains the "Library Trifecta" = Cats + Books + Cuteness.

Rough Day at the Library?

I think about "what would Chuck do?"
He'd probably roundhouse every problem patron in the face. I unfortunately am not that flexible. Oh, and I think there was something in the library training handbook about not kicking patrons too.
Shout out to my coworker/friend who saw this item in the Friend's donation bin and decided it belonged in my cubicle instead of the dumpster.

That Time of the Month Again...

Yesterday all 25+ of the library staff were forced into the meeting room to stare across the tables at each other for 2 straight hours. As you can see from my notes, nothing really important is ever discussed at these meetings.
We did celebrate the 20th anniversary of an employee. Yeah, she's a page. I cannot fathom what its like to page for a decade straight let alone TWO decades. I would go insane. She's been through two building renovations, and numerous managerial regime changes. She's a great person and worker. I wonder if I'll end up "stuck" at the County for the next 20 years too...

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss.

Our children's librarian decided that everyone working today should be rocking a Dr. Seuss hat.

It could be worse, my coworker tried volunteering me last night to wear the full Cat in the Hat costume. Mercifully I work the morning shift so the timing worked out for me. Another coworker tried on the suit last night and she was prancing around in the back room. She is so freaking excited about wearing it. I would define her as a "Prop-Librarian;" she doesn't own any holiday themed sweaters, but she'll wear a leprechaun hat for St. Patty's or a star spangled hair band on July 4th.

Her surprising alacrity to sport the Cat in the Hat costume leaves me to believe that she's a closet furry (don't Google that, it's really NSFW, that and you won't be able to get the images out of your head).
