ILL's are for Serious Reading... WRONG.

Working with my branch's ILL's directly and with my years of checking them in and out, all of the titles have seemed to be for research or for some educational purpose.

This particular patron has proven me wrong.

Apparently, someone requested GhettoHeat's Convict's Candy.  I really have no idea why.  The County pays for ILL's and I'm left wondering why it was spent on this.  Yeah, I know, the library is open information for all but c'mon.  Just watch "The Wire" or something.

  1. Oh hell, why not. I use ILL to order graphic novels and all sorts of "fluffy" reading now and then between the serious stuff. I know one of these days the ILL librarian is going to call me aside and say, "really? You ordered such and such?" In the end, you've got to get your fix however you can.

Having said all that, Convict's Candy, really? Just the title makes me smirk.

  2. DWB,
Graphic novels are perfectly acceptable, they make movies out them! I guess I need to work on embracing the openness of the library.

The other thing that gets me, is patrons who request items from the library system next door. And by next door I mean 5 miles down the road. We have reciprocal privileges, so stop being lazy and wasting two library's resources.

  3. If the county thinks this is a waste, then they should stop the practice. Do you have a car? Can you afford bus fare? If the answer to both of those is yes, maybe you should stop bitching about folks who have neither who don't necessarily want to walk 5 miles in order to get a book. Or is that too lazy in your world? Most of the problems we have with libraries begin with librarians and their elitist attitudes. So just so we all understand, graphic novel that appeals to white people=good, urban books that appeal to black & brown youth=bad.

  4. Miss ELITA,

Ahh the interwebz, where varying opinions coexist. Don't get me started on what's wrong with libraries, I would be up all night and day.

Now about those elitist librarians, the worst group of people ever assembled in history. They're mean, conniving, rude, and extremely well read which makes them very dangerous.
